Use the Right Tools
This is usually where most people get it wrong. When the right dusting tools are not used, it tends to make the whole dusting process seem like a waste of effort. You need a tool that will be able to attract the dust and not just push it aside. This bring us to one of the common tools generally used in dusting: feather duster. If you are just looking to have fun and not actually dust, then a feather duster is the preferred choice. It basically just pushes the dust from one side to the other. For more serious dusting, use a microfiber cloth or rag. The microfiber is designed to attract and hold dust particles.
Dust in the Right Direction
So you have a room filled with dust and you feel moved to start dusting, so you just start. Half way into the dusting, you would realize some areas you already dusted have new dust settled on the surface. Ideally, its best you start dusting from up of the room to the ground. This way, every dust particle end up on the ground and you can concentrate your efforts in cleaning it with a vacuum. Try dusting in a spiral motion; it tends to get the job done a whole lot faster and better.
Clean the Electronics
Electronics are great magnets for dust. Well not magnet in its true sense but the fact that dust quickly settles on them so easily. After furniture, your focus should be on the available electronics in the room. Use a microfiber cloth to gently wipe the surface and the dust should come off easily. For little crevices, you can use a soft brush to dust it off.
This is yet another item in a room that acts as a magnet for dust. Use the microfiber cloth to clean the surface and it should be gone easily. For upholstered furniture, get a vacuum cleaner designed for that purpose. Remove the pillows and clean the upholstered furniture slowly and efficiently. You can do this routinely but it is advisable that you do a deep cleaning of your upholstered furniture once a year. This will allow it stay new and fresh and eliminate any breeding germs.
These are just few dusting tips to hold on to when dusting your home. While dusting is easy and somewhat fun, if one does not have the right tools and know what they are doing, the entire process can seem frustrating.
